Eurobeat: Moldova

Welcome to the small Eastern European country of Moldova. Despite being one of the smallest (and poorest) former Soviet states, this proud nation has defied the Global Financial Crisis, the iron fist of its former sovereign country and indeed all common sense by staging this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
This evening’s show is hosted by the glamorous but fearsome former KGB agent turned lifestyle presenter Katya Kokov and the frothy pop star Nikolae Nikovsky (winner of Moldova’s Got Talent three year’s running). Together they steer you through the political and musical minefield that is this year’s competition which features your favourite European nations such as the United Kingdom, Sweden and Ireland as well as unexpected finalists Morocco and the eagerly anticipated first ever entry from the Vatican City.
Watch and wonder as ten nations fight it out for the ultimate prize and marvel at the entertainment spectacular that the host nation has created for your entertainment. Who wins? Well, you decide as with every performance it is the votes of the live audience that determines who walks away showered in glitter and glory.
This show contains adult themes and sexual references and is not suitable for all audiences.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is making its highly anticipated Victorian Premiere on Friday 8th December 2023 at the Geoffrey McComas Theatre, Hawthorn.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a musical based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo, with songs from the Disney movie by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. It tells the story of Quasimodo, a hunchbacked bell-ringer who lives in the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, who longs for acceptance but is shunned and ridiculed for his appearance.

Matthew Tomlin (Quasimodo), Ninna Aguirre (Esmeralda) and Zachary Brown (Claude Frollo) lead a talented cast of 30 and an on-stage choir of 32. The show features powerful ballads and soaring anthems, including iconic songs “Out There”, “God Help the Outcasts” and “Hellfire”, and explores the timely themes of love, acceptance, and societal prejudice.

Directed by Joel Batalha, with musical direction from David Barrell and Ned Dixon and choreography from Caitlin Lamont. A stunning orchestra of 19, including a special appearance by Scotch Principal Dr Scott Marsh on the trumpet, will complement the beautiful score, strong performances, and powerful message.
