Les Misérables is now the longest running musical in the world and, in October 2010, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a theatrical first – three different productions of the same musical staged at the same time in one city – the star-studded concerts at The O2, the acclaimed new 25th Anniversary Production (which completed its sell-out UK Tour at London’s Barbican Theatre) and the original production, which continues its record breaking run at the Queen’s Theatre, London.
The 25th Anniversary Production has been a huge hit all over again, breaking box office records across North America, Spain, Canada, South America, South Africa, Korea, Japan and China. 32,000 people attended the sell-out O2 Concerts, which were also relayed to cinemas worldwide and subsequently released on DVD and Blu-ray.
In Australia, Les Misérables has enjoyed great success with multiple revival productions, the most recent starring Simon Gleeson and Hayden Tee (both now performing on the West End) toured Australia for over 2 years and has since moved on to sell out seasons in it’s Asian tour.
CLOC’s first production of Les Misérables in October 1993 was one of the first non-professional productions in Australasia. Directed then as it will be now by Chris Bradtke the 1993 production set new standards in production and quality. In 2017 we will see a Les Misérables for today, incorporating the new standards in technical achievement and visual effects today’s audiences have come to expect.
