Billy Loves Cha Cha Forever

Kings Cross, Australia – New Year’s Eve, 1968. On the floor of a pokey flat lies the dead body of a street hustler shot at close range, straight through the heart. A man stands over him whistling Auld Lang Syne. A year earlier, in a seedy nightclub called The Boom Boom Room, dressed in a fake fur and sequined frock, Cha Cha weaves her magic on the small appreciative crowd. That night she meets Billy, a brash young boy from Melbourne and falls in love. Then the fairy-tale ends. Local pimp, Louis, has a less romantic idea for the star-crossed lovers…

CAT take great pride in presenting this Cracked Actors production by award winning playwright/director Noel Anderson. Few plays capture the Zeitgeist of one era. This one captures both the rough ‘n’ ready iconoclastic time in which it is set with the current yearning and nostalgia for an era that entrenched the LGBTIQ community in the mainstream of Australian culture.

Billy Loves Cha Cha Forever! is a bittersweet story. It has more frocks than Priscilla and more plot twists than Sleuth. Go on, you know you’ll love it!

Noel Anderson has written plays including ‘Audrey Hepburn and I Consider Our Assets’ (Melba Spiegeltent, Melbourne), ‘Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes of Fame’ and his play on the AIDS epidemic, ‘Dark Victory’ (Playtime finalist Midsumma Festival 2016). He has directed more than fifty shows, including the 2017 hit Melbourne Fringe season of ‘Love Kills’.

Billy Loves Cha Cha Forever! will be Noel’s first production at Cracked Actors.

Dahlin! It’s the Jeanne Little Show – at The Butterfly Club

Written and directed by award-winning Melbourne playwright, Kieran Carroll, DAHLIN! IT’S THE JEANNE LITTLE SHOW is a portrait of one of Australia’s most loved entertainers and is being performed at The Butterfly Club as part of the 2020 Midsumma Festival.

Gold Logie winner Jeanne Little, rose to prominence in 1974 when she began regular appearances on The Mike Walsh Show. After becoming the most popular woman on Australian television in the 1970s, Jeanne’s talents and career blossomed in numerous ways. From appearances on numerous TV shows, to starring in the hit musical Jerry Girls; singing for Princess Diana and Prince Charles at the Sydney Opera House, to worldwide touring shows playing Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe, Jeanne Little’s contribution to Australian entertainment is immeasurable.

DAHLIN! IT’S THE JEANNE LITTLE SHOW performed with great aplomb by Melbourne performer Caroline Ferguson traces Jeanne’s humble beginnings raised by a single mum, her youthful years in London, her successful and loving marriage to interior designer, Barry Little, the many famous people she met along the way and her attempts to be both mother and TV star. The stories are wrapped in warmth, with Jeanne’s own brand of zany and irrepressible humour always present. This high energy and fantastically funny show is the story of an Australian icon who did things her way.

DAHLIN! IT’S THE JEANNE LITTLE SHOW is a wonderful show for all. It will bring a smile, a laugh and joy to everyone.

‘A great show bringing back fantastic memories. Laughs, sing-alongs, feet tapping. We couldn’t stop talking about Jeanne.’

“Before The Book of Mormon there was a Mormon Boy!”

The international one-man sensation Confessions of a Mormon Boy comes to Australia!
