Olive Hoover is an aspiring young beauty queen who learns that she has qualified for the “Little Miss Sunshine” pageant being held in California. With very little money, the ambitious Olive jumps into a yellow Volkswagen Type 2 van with her overworked mother, her gay uncle, her over-achieving father, her silent Nietzsche-reading brother and foul-mouthed grandfather (and coach) for the 800km journey to California.
